NRPA’s Family Health & Fitness Day at Bushy Lake

  • Bushy Lake Restoration Project (Meet near Cal Expo RV parking lot) 500 Ethan Way Sacramento, CA, 95815 United States (map)

The Bushy Lake Restoration Project, located near Cal Expo in Sacramento, CA, is conducting research on the conservation of western pond turtles, California's only native turtle. Currently, the US Fish and Wildlife Service is in the process of considering listing the northwestern pond turtle as Threatened and southwestern pond turtle as Endangered under the federal Endangered Species Act.

We invite you to come out on Saturday, June 8th as a part of NRPA’s Family Health & Fitness Day and learn how we collect our data on turtles at the lake! We will trap non-native turtles prior to the event so you can observe them up close and learn how to ID them. We will demonstrate how to measure a turtle, and you will learn how to tell a female turtle from a male turtle, what to do if you see a turtle crossing a road or trail, and other fun turtle facts!

This is a free event with free parking! We will meet at the Cal Expo RV parking lot near 500 Ethan Way, Sacramento CA 94574 at 9:00 AM. Bring water, snacks, close-toed shoes, and sun protection- it is a short, flat hike to the lake and restoration site from the parking lot. We will finish up around noon and be available for any questions you may have.
